Yesterday, Mike Huckabee made waves with his comments about women in a speech at the Republican National Committee's winter meeting. Everybody was focusing on "Uncle Sugar" (whoever that is) and "controlling libidos" but there were actually several things that Governor Huckabee said that blew our minds (and not in a good way) with their outrageousness.

Read his quotes and then tell us below which one you think is the most offensive statement.

1. When he said:

Republicans don't have a war on women. They have a war FOR women.

Because women can't fight their own wars and the bills Republicans have been trying to pass (ie letting your boss decide if you get access to birth control, mandating ultrasounds, letting your doctor deny lifesaving care because of their religious beliefs) are exactly what women across America want.

2. When he referred to women as:

victims of their gender.

Women are victims, enough said.

3. When he said the Republican party:

stands for the recognition of the equality of women and the capacity of women.

By equality , does he mean women making 77 cents on the dollar (the GOP consistently opposes fair pay legislation)? And by capacity, does he mean only insofar as women are able to make their medical decisions in accordance with politicians' values?

4. When he referred to women as so easily coerced that they:

believe that they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing them a prescription each month for birth control.

For men, it's Uncle Sam but for women it's Uncle Sugar.

5. When he implied women need birth control because:

they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system".

Actually, birth control isn’t meant to control women’s sex drive, it’s to help women control when and if they get pregnant (not to mention a myriad of other uses like treating endometriosis and acne). And men have an interest in that too.
