2010 Election Hall of Shame
Is it possible that abortion could be outlawed in the United States, even in cases of rape and incest? Just ask Sarah Palin and the five Republican U.S. Senate candidates who are running on the most extreme anti-abortion platform possible.
Here’s our growing list of Hall of Shame offenders, in their own words.
Christine O’Donnell (R-Delaware), Running for the U.S. Senate
O’Donnell is at the top of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund Hall of Shame. Here’s a video sampling of some of her outrageous opinions.
And here she is, opposing an advocate of comprehensive sex ed, stating that people should just stop having sex.
Sharron Angle (R-Nevada), Running for the U.S. Senate
“I think that two wrongs don't make a right. And I have been in the situation of counseling young girls, not 13 but 15, who have had very at risk, difficult pregnancies. And my counsel was to look for some alternatives, which they did. And they found that they had made what was really a lemon situation into lemonade.”
Ken Buck (R-Colorado) Running for the U.S. Senate
Here’s Ken Buck saying that he’s against abortion, even in cases of rape or incest:
Rand Paul (R-Kentucky), Running for the U.S. Senate
“I would strongly support legislation restricting federal courts from hearing cases like Roe v. Wade. Such legislation would only require a majority vote, making it more likely to pass than a pro-life constitutional amendment. I would support legislation, a Sanctity of Life Amendment, establishing the principle that life begins at conception. This legislation would define life at conception in law, as a scientific statement. As your Senator, there are many ways I can help end abortion. I will fight for each and every one of them.”
Pat Toomey (R-Pennsylvania), Running for the U.S. Senate
“I think that Roe v. Wade was wrongly defined, wrongly decided and I think states should be free to restrict abortion and I would support legislation in Pennsylvania that would ban abortion and I would suggest that we have penalties for doctors who perform them if we were able to pass that law.”
Joe Miller (R-Alaska), Running for the U.S. Senate
“I am unequivocally pro-life,” including in cases of rape or incest. I believe in abortion “only when the mother’s life is in danger.”
Carly Fiorina (R-California), Running for the U.S. Senate
During a debate with her opponent, Senator Barbara Boxer, Fiorina was asked if she would seek to overturn Roe v. Wade. Her answer was she would: "If there were an opportunity." Learn more about Carly Fiorina.
Mike Pence (R-Indiana), Running for the House of Representatives
"If Republicans are given the opportunity to lead again — you’re going to see a pro-life agenda on Capitol Hill.”
