North Dakota Judge Blocks Extreme Abortion Law
A federal judge in North Dakota has blocked the state’s law banning abortions as early as six weeks—before many women know they are pregnant. The law, which would ultimately outlaw abortion in the state demonstrated just how far some politicians would go to take away women’s access to safe and legal abortion. But after yesterday’s ruling, North Dakota women will no longer have to worry about it taking effect August 1, as originally planned. The judge called it “a blatant violation of the constitutional guarantees afforded to all women” acknowledging that women’s constitutionally protected rights shouldn’t depend on their zip codes.
