The Planned Parenthood Action Fund announced its endorsement of Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT) in his re-election campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives. The Planned Parenthood Action Fund is the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

“The Planned Parenthood Action Fund is proud to endorse Rep. Peter Welch,” said Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “Peter Welch has consistently supported women’s health and reproductive health care during his career in public service. We need Welch in Congress more than ever to continue to fight for women’s health and equality.”

As Vermont’s only U.S. Representative since 2007, Welch has advocated for women’s reproductive rights, women’s health care services, and equal treatment of women. Welch was a co-sponsor of the Prevention First Act, which aimed to decrease unintended pregnancies by expanding access to preventive health care and education services. In the fight for health care reform, Welch fought to protect a woman’s right to choose by voting against the anti-choice Stupak amendment.

“Voters in Vermont know they can count on Peter Welch to be a champion of women’s health,” said Jill Krowinski, director of communications for the Planned Parenthood of Northern New England Action Fund. “Especially at a time when women’s access to health care is under attack, we need Congressman Welch in Congress to stand up for women and families and put commonsense health care needs ahead of ideology and politics.”

Welch has a proven record in Congress of fighting to protect and expand women’s rights and women’s health. If re-elected, he will continue to work to improve access to quality health care for women, end discrimination and violence against women, support and protect a woman's right to choose, strengthen comprehensive sex education to keep our young people healthy and safe, and invest in prevention programs, including family planning services and breast cancer screenings.

The election will be held on November 2.
