Washington, DC — Planned Parenthood Action Fund announced its endorsement of Angela Zimmann for Ohio’s 5th Congressional District. The Action Fund is the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

"We are proud to endorse Angela Zimmann for Congress,” said Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “We are confident that Angela will stand up for Ohio women and stand up to to the politicians in Washington who continue to launch attacks against women’s access to health care."

Zimmann is running against Republican incumbent Representative Robert Latta. Rep. Latta is dangerous for women and women’s health. While in Congress, Rep. Latta

  • voted to eliminate the Title X Family Planning Program, which millions of women and families depend upon for their health care; and
  • voted to cut off Planned Parenthood's federal funding, putting at risk the cancer screenings, birth control, STD testing and treatment, and other preventive care that millions of Americans rely on each year.

"Angela Zimmann understands that health care needs to be accessible and affordable for everyone," said Stephanie Kight, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio. "Women and families in Ohio’s 5th Congressional District can count on Angela Zimmann to fight for them in Washington and to make sure politics don’t interfere with women’s health."

Zimman has vowed to be a strong advocate for Planned Parenthood patients in Ohio. In 2011, the 31 Planned Parenthood health centers located in Ohio served 90,932 patients by providing a wide range of preventive health services. Among the services provided were 20,103 breast exams that detected 487 abnormal results requiring further diagnosis and treatment; 18,284 cervical cancer screenings (i.e., Pap tests) that detected 2,391 abnormal results requiring further diagnosis and treatment; and 50,872 tests for chlamydia — the leading cause of preventable infertility — that resulted in 4,255 positive results and follow-up treatment.
