Romney Endorses Extreme Anti-Women's Health Senate Candidate
In New TV Ad, Romney Supports Rick Berg, Who Would Send Rape Victims Who Have an Abortion to Jail for Life
WASHINGTON — Mitt Romney has once again confirmed his support for a dangerous women's health agenda by endorsing North Dakota Senate candidate Rick Berg, who voted for a bill to outlaw safe and legal abortion, subjecting rape victims who have an abortion to jail time with the potential for a life in prison. Romney has also refused to withdraw his endorsement of Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock, who believes that rape victims should not have access to abortion because pregnancies from rape are "something God intended to happen." Following is a statement from Dawn Laguens, Planned Parenthood Action Fund executive vice president:
"Mitt Romney's endorsement of politicians like Rick Berg and Richard Mourdock are a clear illustration of his own dangerous agenda for women's health: ending safe and legal abortion, cutting off funding for Planned Parenthood preventive health services, and making it harder to get birth control. While in recent weeks Romney and his advisers have tried to mislead voters about his stance on issues important to women, trying to paint him as a moderate, these endorsements of dangerous politicians show his true colors. Romney would put politicians like Rick Berg, who wants to send rape victims who have an abortion to prison for life, in charge of a woman's personal health care decisions."
