CALIFORNIA – Jodi Hicks, President/CEO of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, issued the following statement on the second day of confirmation hearings for Amy Coney Barrett, in which Judiciary Committee members questioned Barrett on her stances, including around the Affordable Care Act and Roe v. Wade.

“It comes as no surprise that during today’s Senate Judiciary confirmation hearing, Amy Coney Barrett purposefully avoided providing direct answers to some of the most fundamental questions facing our future. While she may have claimed to have no agenda, we knowm in fact, her agenda would overturn decades of work that has advanced reproductive rights for millions of people.

“This blatant disregard for process and existing law continues to be an affront to our democracy and is driven by Senate Republicans hell-bent on pushing health care access and basic human rights out of reach for the American public. The seat left by trailblazer Justice Ginsburg is the people’s seat, and Planned Parenthood Affiliates again demands the Senate stop the nomination proceedings until the 2021 inauguration.”
