Every movement is powered by stories. The stories of people whose lives have been affected by access, or lack of access, to critical reproductive health care like abortion, birth control, miscarriage management, and so much more are what help contextualize the fight for reproductive freedom for elected officials, voters, and every day Nevadans alike.
As a PPVNV storyteller, you will have access to training that will help craft your story for advocacy efforts, be connected to storytelling opportunities like speaking at events or telling your story through writing or social media, a newsletter, and so much more!
What will I learn as a PPVNV storyteller?
A PPVNV organizer will connect with you often, learn about your story, and connect you to virtual training or training opportunities. At those trainings, we will learn not just the basics of storytelling but also how to craft your story with your peers, practice telling it in different formats (for example, a short speech or writing it as an op-ed), and get 1:1 help from PPVNV staff.
As a storyteller, you will also have exclusive access to the PPVNV storytellers newsletter, which includes resources for continued learning, opportunities to share your story, news, examples of powerful storytelling, and so much more.
How does my story make an impact?
Ever since the Supreme Court overturned federal protections for abortion in its Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, we have seen the devastating impact that cruel abortion bans can have on people’s health and lives. As Nevadans, our status as a protected access state means we’re fighting doubly hard to secure our rights and reduce barriers to care.
Your stories of how access to reproductive health care changed your life are vitally important in the effort to show those who may not have been impacted by issues of reproductive health care (yet) just how life-changing something like access to birth control, routine screenings, and yes – abortion care can be.
What happens once I sign up?
When you sign up to be a PPVNV storyteller, an organizer will be in touch to connect with you and talk to you about your story, your comfort level in telling your story, how you would like to tell your story and connect you with any training resources to get you started.
Then, you will be added to our email list, where you’ll receive updates about opportunities to tell your story, future trainings or events, plus other helpful resources and ways to connect with your storytellers.
