HotSpots for April 1–30, 2010

HotSpots is a summary of incidents of harassment and violence directed at Planned Parenthood affiliates, national offices, and other reproductive health care providers, produced monthly by Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc.

Nevada  04/29/10  A Planned Parenthood health center received three phone calls from an unidentified male who made several inappropriate sexual statements and then asked how he could "get rid" of a child.

Colorado  04/25/10  A Planned Parenthood staff member reported that her vehicle was defaced by a handwritten, anti-choice note in response to her bumper sticker which reads "Every child a wanted child." The note read "So if your child is unwanted, you would kill it?"

Delaware  04/23/10  A large truck with pictures of aborted fetuses drove around a Planned Parenthood health center repeatedly.

Colorado  04/19/10  The door to a Planned Parenthood education center was vandalized.  A metal plaque had almost been ripped off the door and the wooden door was damaged.

Colorado  04/19/10  A Planned Parenthood health center received a call from a man who made several anti-choice statements and hung up.

Illinois  04/16/10  A window of a Planned Parenthood health center was broken. 

Colorado  04/14/10  A man entered a Planned Parenthood health center, used vulgar language, and directed anti-choice statements toward staff.

California  04/13/10  The fence in front of a Planned Parenthood health center was vandalized.

California  04/08/10  An egg had been broken on one of the windows of a Planned Parenthood health center, and the building had been toilet-papered.

New York  04/08/10  A man entered a Planned Parenthood health center and made religious and anti-choice comments.

New Jersey  04/05/10  Staff at a Planned Parenthood health center saw a man get out of his car, which was parked on health center property, and urinate on the parking lot fence. The man got back into his car and left.

Pennsylvania  04/03/10  A protester at a Planned Parenthood health center read inflammatory scripture imploring God to murder the protester’s enemies.

New Mexico  04/02/10  A crowd of approximately 400 people spent Good Friday protesting at a Planned Parenthood health center. The protest lasted for five hours, and when it was over Planned Parenthood staff found red paint splashed over the sidewalk, which was also scattered with hangers. 

Virginia  04/01/10  Two protesters at a Planned Parenthood health center handed out anti-choice material that included a DVD and a pamphlet about women regretting abortions.

Multiple Sites, April 2010  Many Planned Parenthood affiliates reported receiving an anti-homosexual e-mail that was lengthy and contained numerous Bible passages, "statistics," and offensive content.

Multiple Sites, April 2010  Several Planned Parenthood affiliates reported receiving an anti-choice mailing that included Biblical quotes.
