MORE PARENTS OF TRANS KIDS CONSIDER RELOCATING FOR THEIR CHILDRENS’ HEALTH AND WELL-BEING: A recent article in EL PAÍS chronicles the experiences of families living in Missouri whose children rely on gender-affirming care, but who are now finding it challenging to receive such care under anti-trans laws.
In anticipation of these anti-trans laws Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri (PPSLR) health centers have prepared to serve more patients. Colleen McNicholas, medical director at PPSLR, states: “We have experience working in challenging environments. We’re not so easily intimidated.”
Anti-trans rhetoric is often rooted in fear-mongering tactics. As Dr. Bhavik Kumar, medical director for primary and trans care for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, highlighted: “These politicians consciously play with misinformation.”
Results from a June 2023 survey from Data for Progress show that 8% of trans people have relocated due to anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, and 43% of trans people have considered relocating as well.
