South Carolina Senator Lee Bright really wants to ban abortion after 20 weeks even in cases of rape and incest - he sponsored one of four bans introduced in the state this session. But once a 20-week ban was amended to include these exceptions, Bright threw a fit and tried to block a vote on it.

This week, Bright and fellow anti-abortion politician Senator Tom Corbin (known for calling women a “lesser cut of meat”) continued debating this dangerous 20-week ban on abortion. While their complete disregard for women’s health and rights is expected, their outright hypocrisy is unbelievable.

Given the extreme nature of the legislation Bright is pushing, you might think there was something about the bill that he and Corbin didn’t understand. Unfortunately, it looks like they know full well what they’re doing.

You may have trouble keeping Corbin and Bright straight. We’ll try to help you out.

Here’s Sen. Corbin:

And here’s where he gets even more crazy... and insulting.

Really, senator? Is there no instance you can think of?

Sen. Bright surprisingly corrects his fellow women’s health “expert.”

You gotta give it to Sen. Bright:

He isn’t arguing that a woman’s body has ways to shut that whole pregnancy thing down, like another anti-abortion politician said not too long ago.

But wait — let’s not give Bright too much credit.

Remember, this guy has been blocking this bill because he doesn’t want to include exceptions for survivors of rape and incest.

Yesterday they finally sat Bright down and passed the amendment he had been fighting — but all indications are that he is not done trying to stop this bill from passing because it’s not harsh enough. See what happens when Sen. Corbin digs in:

Now, does Bright rise to women’s defense? Does he stand by his assertion that women are, in fact, NOT in the position to choose whether a rapist will impregnate them?

Nope. Nope, because like — you know.

“And and it you know is something that is uh the fact that we as men don’t have the – I mean we have the responsibility but so many of us and that’s a real world problem in our culture. So many of us don’t own up to it. And it is unfortunate that we don’t bear the responsibility that we should."

Yes. Yes it is unfortunate.

There you have it. These South Carolina senators are all for taking out exceptions for rape and incest, knowing full well what it means.
