Mike Pence has been leading a decade long crusade against Planned Parenthood — and he’s awful proud of that record. And if he and Donald Trump are elected this November, Pence promises they’ll take his “defunding” agenda with them to Washington, DC. Really.

Here he is, just a few weeks ago, making that promise at the right-wing Values Voter Summit:

“The days of public funding for Planned Parenthood are over when the Trump-Pence administration arrives in Washington. DC”

Pence’s crusade isn’t new. He’s been at it a long time. In fact, he was the first member of Congress to try to “defund” Planned Parenthood, back in 2007. He’s introduced a total of six separate measures aimed at blocking patients from accessing life-saving care at Planned Parenthood health centers. That’s some distinguished dishonor, isn’t it?

Pence was even willing to shut down the government in 2011 over Planned Parenthood funding:

WILLIE GEIST (CO-HOST): Are you willing to hold up this entire budget over defunding Planned Parenthood?

PENCE: Well — well of course I am.

As Politico wrote that year, “nobody hates Planned Parenthood quite as much as Mike Pence.” Maybe that’s why it’s been one of his favorite topics for so many years:

“The time has come to deny all federal funding to Planned Parenthood of America. I’ve authored the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act, which would deny Title X funds to Planned Parenthood.”

And here he is again:

“We will not rest until the largest abortion provider in America is no longer the largest recipient of federal funding under Title X.”

And:

“Maybe this very night, we may in fact pass a bill in the House that would deny all federal funding to Planned Parenthood of America.”

And — yep — again:

“I’ve been fighting for five years to deny federal funding to the largest abortion provider in America.”

And that was just in 2011. Do you think Pence has stopped fighting to block patients from basic health care? Here’s a hint: No. No, he has not.

That’s who Mike Pence is. As Pence said himself, that’s what a Trump-Pence administration would bring to Washington, DC, if they win this November. And that’s why we must make sure that doesn’t happen.

Send Pence Packing!

While Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine represent the strongest reproductive rights ticket ever, Donald Trump and Mike Pence are running one of the most extreme tickets in generations. A Trump-Pence ticket should send a shiver down the spine of women in this country.
