As the nation continues to break records for COVID-19 infections nearly every day, and just one week after voters soundly rejected the Trump administration’s relentless attacks on our health care, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is at risk. Today, the Supreme Court will consider a case that could result in the court striking down the entire ACA — which would cause more than 800,000 Michiganders to lose their health insuranceand eliminate critical protections — in the middle of a global pandemic.

This year, Senator Gary Peters won re-election by pledging to stand up for health care, including reproductive health care. Now we need you to ensure he keeps his promise and continues to do the work to to protect and expand the essential care and coverage guaranteed by the Affordable Care Act.

Call Senator Gary Peters now. Thank him for standing up for the ACA and tell him to defend our health care in the Senate.

What to Say (Call Script)

Hi, my name is __________, and I live in ___________.

I'm calling to thank Senator Gary Peters for standing up for health care, including reproductive health care, during his re-election campaign. I’m also calling to urge him to continue this work in the Senate.

The protections of the Affordable Care Act are critically important for Michiganders like me. If the Supreme Court strikes down the ACA, it could mean the end of protections for people with preexisting conditions, including things like pregnancy and survival of domestic violence. It would also mean an end to prohibitions on charging women more for health care and protections against sex discrimination in health care. These benefits have made a night-and-day difference for Michiganders, especially those with low incomes — many of whom are Black and Latino, due to centuries of discriminatory economic and housing policies and institutional and structural racism.

I need the Affordable Care Act because [add your own story, if you like].

Senator Peters, I’m grateful that you will continue representing Michiganders like me in the Senate. I also expect you to continue to vote against any attacks on healthcare, including Planned Parenthood and the vital health services it provides.

Thank you for your time.
