Rep. Katie Porter tells MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell that the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is a “bitter pill to swallow” with the Supreme Court taking away constitutional rights and “trampling on the will of the majority of people.” She discusses how Congress plans to fight back against Republicans’ plans to restrict abortion nationwide and protect other rights that may be at risk.

Vote for Choice,
Vote for Katie

Katie Porter is running for Congress in California’s 47th District in the upcoming General Election. The last day to vote is Tuesday, November 8, 2022.

Endorsed by Planned Parenthood, Katie Porter believes that each person should have the freedom to choose what happens to their own body, and that health care decisions should be made between a patient and their doctor, not politicians. She is a dedicated advocate for reproductive rights, and expanding access to affordable, high-quality care.

Katie’s Pro-Choice Track Record

Since being elected to Congress in 2019, Katie Porter has introduced and co-sponsored a number of bills, and advocated for initiatives that aim to expand access to reproductive health care.

Access to Birth Control Act

Protects patients by requiring pharmacies to comply with certain rules related to ensuring access to contraceptives. Specifically, pharmacies must provide without delay a customer with any contraceptive or related medication that is in stock.

Women's Health Protection Act

Passed in the House, but struck down in the Senate, the Women’s Health Protection Act would have codified Roe v. Wade and protected Americans who decide to seek abortions.

Urged reversal of Trump Administration’s changes to the Title X family planning program

Trump Administration rules withheld federal resources from health care clinics providing abortion referrals and services. Because of Katie Porter’s advocacy, the rules were reversed by the Biden Administration.

Abortion is Health Care Everywhere Act

Cosponsored by Katie Porter, this bill would amend the Foreign Assistance Act to repeal the Helms Amendment and replace it with language explicitly stating that U.S. foreign assistance funds can be used to provide comprehensive reproductive health care, including abortion. It’s the first bill of its kind in the nearly 50 years the Helms Amendment has existed.

Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance (EACH Woman) Act

This bill would help low-income patients access abortion care through public health insurance programs, including Medicaid, Medicare, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program, as well as insurance plans for federal employees. Additionally, the bill prohibits federal, state, or local governments from restricting coverage for abortion care available through private health insurance plans.

Support UNFPA Funding Act

In response to the Trump Administration’s efforts to restrict access to reproductive healthcare, this bill would restore funding to the United Nations Population Fund—the leading United Nations agency that provides reproductive and sexual health care around the world.

Global Health, Empowerment, and Rights (HER) Act

This bill would permanently ban the global gag rule that the Trump Administration used to prohibit international health organizations from receiving U.S. assistance if they offered information about or provided abortion care.
