Women Deliver Conference 2013
Thousands of participants from around the world gathered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for Women Deliver 2013, the largest global event of the decade to focus on the health and empowerment of girls and women. Conference organizers expected more than 5,000 participants representing ministries of health, finance and development, parliaments, leading civil society organizations, global companies, and media from around the world.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America had a delegation on site, sharing experiences and lessons learned from the programs we run in across the U.S. and in Africa and Latin America through Planned Parenthood Global.
As part of the main event, Cecile Richards, president of PPFA, took the stage alongside Chelsea Clinton of the Clinton Foundation, Graça Machel and President Tarja Halonen for a conversation on woman and leadership moderated by Ghida Fakhry of Al Jazeera.

Women Deliver 2013 marked nearly one year since the global community gathered at the London Summit on Family Planning hosted by the UK Government and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. At that historic meeting, Planned Parenthood joined other independent organizations, governments, and private foundations to expand women’s access to contraception around the world. In conjunction with the event, PPFA pledged to reach two million more women in the U.S. and one million more overseas.
