Katie McGinty

Democrat, Candidate for U.S. Senate

Katie McGinty isn’t afraid to stand up to anti-women’s health politicians like Pat Toomey. We can count on her to stand with the millions of women and men who want to leave the most personal and private health care decisions out of Congress’s reach. Here’s why.

She Supports Planned Parenthood

McGinty knows how important it is that Planned Parenthood health centers are able to provide critical, often lifesaving, care to patients in Pennsylvania — and to millions of patients all across the country. Meanwhile, her opponent Pat Toomey has voted time after time to “defund” those services, threatening to block over 90,000 Pennsylvanians from birth control and cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood health centers every year.

Last summer, McGinty condemned anti-abortion extremists’ video attacks on Planned Parenthood. When the creator of the discredited videos was indicted on a felony charge, she called out his allies — including Toomey — for continuing to spread the same lies that the faked videos perpetuated.

  • Pennsylvania expanded Medicaid coverage to 500,000 Pennsylvanians, thanks to Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and McGinty, who served as Wolf’s chief of staff.

  • McGinty supports the Child CARE Act, to help families afford child care, and the Healthy Act, to allow for paid sick leave and safe leave —  which provides workers who are victims of domestic violence or sexual assault with time off to recover or seek assistance.

  • McGinty would be the Pennsylvania’s first female senator.

Katie McGinty's Opponent: Pat Toomey, (R)

Senator Toomey wants to ban abortion, jail doctors for providing abortion services, and see Roe v. Wade overturned.

“Planned Parenthood saves lives and strengthens communities by providing quality, affordable healthcare for millions of men and women across the country.”

She Supports Access to Safe, Legal Abortion

There’s no question: McGinty will fight for a woman’s ability to plan her family and make her own reproductive decisions without politicians like Toomey interfering. In fact, McGinty has made it clear that she will oppose any efforts to further restrict abortion rights.

“I love that on climate, they're not a scientist, ‘we can't do anything,’ but when it comes to women's health, they're an M.D. and a Ph.D." —Katie McGinty

She Supports Pay Equity and Family Leave

If elected Senator, McGinty will fight for policies like equal pay and paid family leave that help women take care of their families. It’s no wonder McGinty introduced an “Agenda for Women and Working Families” outlining her commitment to fight for the Paycheck Fairness Act and the FAMILY Act.

Pennsylvanians have a choice this fall: Pat Toomey, who is actively working to ban abortion and “defund” Planned Parenthood, or Katie McGinty, a women’s health champion who will move reproductive rights forward. Just remember: For the last six years, Toomey has shown that whether it’s a vote to “defund” Planned Parenthood or to repeal the ACA and its no-copay birth control benefit — he doesn’t care about the millions of women who would be impacted.

“We need to make sure that women have access to [reproductive] health services at all times because their most personal decisions about healthcare and family planning should be just that — personal and private.”
