Joe Biden Is the Right Choice for President
We can trust Joe Biden to put people over politics and get our country on the right track.
Why We Support Joe Biden
It's never been more important to elect a president we can trust to put the health and safety of workers, families, and communities up front, ahead of his own. Right now, the country needs a president who will really listen, learn, and grow — a leader who will put us first and tell the truth, who will defend our rights and champion our freedoms. Joe Biden has been such a leader, both as vice president and in his work as a U.S. senator.
We can count on Joe Biden to fight for our health and rights, and take decisive action to undo the damage of Donald Trump’s presidency. With Biden in the White House, we can rest in the knowledge that a president with experience and compassion is leading our country and working hard to keep us safe.
Planned Parenthood Action Fund endorsed the Obama-Biden ticket in 2008. Over the years, our appreciation of Joe Biden has grown as he continues to listen and evolve — and in this election, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund strongly endorses Joe Biden for president.

Planned Parenthood Votes will be mobilizing millions of voters in battleground states this fall.
[R]eproductive rights are a constitutional right. And, in fact, every woman should have that right.

Planned Parenthood
Biden supports access to reproductive health care, including birth control, safe and legal abortion, and care at Planned Parenthood health centers
Sex Ed
Biden believes in providing young people with the sex education they need to stay healthy and make the best decisions for their lives
Access to Reproductive Health Care
Biden has a strong voting record on protecting our rights and expanding access to health care. Remember: He stood shoulder to shoulder with Barack Obama during the creation of the historic Affordable Care Act.
Combatting COVID-19
Biden has a plan to both combat COVID-19 and prepare for future global health threats
The contrast between Biden and Trump could not be clearer.
Trump refuses to slow his attacks on our health care, even amid a national public health crisis. Trump refuses to trust pregnant people — particularly pregnant people of color — to decide what’s in the best interest of their own health. Trump has ruthlessly worked to undermine the right to safe and legal abortion that the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed in Roe v. Wade.
In contrast, throughout his career, Joe Biden has put the country before his own political interest — fighting for working families and working tirelessly to expand access to health care.
The stakes for abortion, birth control, and affordable heath care access are higher than they’ve ever been. We can’t afford another four years of Trump. That’s why we’ve got to give everything we have to elect Joe Biden.
Kamala Harris: A Hero for Reproductive Health and Rights
Her addition to the ticket makes clear that in the White House, a Biden administration would not only protect reproductive rights, but also advance and expand them.
Abortion Access
I strongly support Roe v. Wade.
- Joe Biden, 2007
Joe Biden’s commitment to sexual and reproductive health has only heightened over time. Last year at a Planned Parenthood Action Fund presidential forum, as Biden listened to advocates and reproductive justice partners, he affirmed his support for repealing the Hyde Amendment — noting that the legislation disproportionately impacts people with low incomes.
He says he would not “consider a running mate who opposes abortion rights.”
Birth Control
Affordable birth control is important to Joe Biden, and he has a long-standing record of supporting access to it. As a senator, he supported efforts to protect and expand access to birth control, including co-sponsoring the Prevention First Act — a bill to ensure access to and funding for birth control.
As president, Biden says he would defend the Affordable Care Act (ACA)’s requirement that insurers cover birth control without a copay — and stand up for employees whose bosses want to take away that guarantee.
Biden also pledges to repeal the Trump administration’s dangerous gag rule on Title X, the federal program for affordable birth control. The gag rule forced Planned Parenthood and many other qualified health care providers out of Title X — putting the health of 4 million patients nationwide who rely on Title X in jeopardy, and leaving those patients without access to full information about their care. Ending the gag rule would allow those patients to access birth control at their providers of choice, including Planned Parenthood health centers.
“Every woman in America should be able to have insurance coverage for birth control if she so chooses.”
- Joe Biden
Planned Parenthood
During their eight years in office, Biden and Obama worked side by side to thwart attacks on Planned Parenthood. Biden vows to continue standing with Planned Parenthood.
Planned Parenthood helps women and individuals get the health care they need.
- Joe Biden
Biden promises to protect patients who rely on federal health care programs by stopping efforts to “defund” Planned Parenthood in their tracks. In that same vein, Biden promises to reissue Obama-era guidance — which the Trump-Pence administration rescinded — that said states aren't allowed to block Medicaid beneficiaries from using their coverage at Planned Parenthood health centers.
The Trump-Pence administration is now defying this guidance and allowing Texas to get federal Medicaid funding while denying Texans the right to see the provider of their choice.
Biden understands that Planned Parenthood plays a crucial role in our health care system — applauding its health centers for providing care to patients who often experience barriers to health services. “Women and transgender individuals' health care is essential,” Biden has said. “Historically, women — and particularly women of color — have been put in a position where they cannot access health care, in a more extreme way more than any other part of the population.”
Health Equity
When it comes to health care equity — Joe Biden gets it.
I support @PPact because women and transgender individuals' health care is essential. Historically, women — and particularly women of color — have been put in a position where they cannot access health care, in a more extreme way more than any other part of the population.

Sex Education
Joe Biden knows that sex education helps people get the information, skills and motivation they need to make healthy decisions about sex and sexuality throughout their lives.
And Biden sides with the 96% of parents who support providing sex education in high school. In a 2007 questionnaire, Biden stated that he supports sex education in schools, particularly sex education that includes science-based methods proven to help prevent unintended pregnancies and STIs.
It just makes sense.
“I do not believe that we have a right to tell other people, women, that they can’t control their body.”

2020 and Beyond
Joe Biden is our country’s best opportunity in this election to create meaningful change for our health and rights. He’s also shown that he has the ability to listen and evolve his policy positions — and pledges to center those most impacted by those policies.
This is important.
Part of Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations’ role in this election is to be a voice for supporters, and to hold candidates accountable — making sure that they represent our values. That means we will continue to hold Biden accountable, to ensure that he and his administration stand up for our values, our health and our rights.
November 2020 isn’t the end. It’s just the beginning. Together, we must hold Biden and other Planned Parenthood Action Fund-endorsed candidates accountable — and ensure that when they take office, they will fight for us.
We’re not just fighting to reverse as much of the damage caused by the Trump administration as we can. We’re fighting to build something new. To do that, we have to dream big, make bold decisions, and work together on a collective policy agenda. This year has made it clearer than ever that we must rapidly strengthen access to affordable and equitable health care, and intentionally dismantle the systemic inequities and biases woven into the fabric of so many of this nation’s policies and institutions.
We know you have a lot of hopes and goals for our future. We do, too. Let’s remain vocal and courageous, with Biden and other candidates, as we fight for those goals together.
Vote for a Reproductive Health Champion
Joe Biden championed access to reproductive health as a U.S. senator from Delaware, and again as vice president of the United States. He remains a proud reproductive health champion today.
As president, Biden will work to ensure access to affordable, high-quality health care. He will protect the American people’s reproductive and sexual health. And he will defend our rights. With Biden as president, we can trust that health care will be protected and expanded across the country.
Planned Parenthood Votes is excited to help return a true partner to the White House — a partner who will join us in our work to provide health care to everyone who needs it, no matter what.
We Decide 2020
This election, we decide to go forward, not backward.
