Voters are already casting ballots to send Trump’s right-hand man packing

Denver, CO — For the past four years, Sen. Cory Gardner has worked in lockstep with the Trump administration to restrict access to safe, legal abortion and overturn the Affordable Care Act (ACA) — risking health coverage for over 588,000 Coloradans. Now, he’s voted to confirm a third Trump Supreme Court nominee who may vote to dismantle Roe v. Wade and overturn the ACA.

For many Coloradans, this is a decision that will have life and death consequences. Our health, rights, and freedoms are all at greater risk because of Sen. Gardner’s vote to confirm Barrett today.

Statement from Jack Teter, Planned Parenthood Votes spokesperson:

“Cory Gardner has failed once again to represent the people of Colorado. This comes as no surprise, as he has consistently attempted to block access to affordable health care and overturn the right to safe, legal abortion. Voters are already sending in their ballots in record numbers to elect John Hickenlooper and guarantee Gardner loses his seat. Planned Parenthood Votes will help ensure that this is the last time he betrays Coloradans in office.”

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court came one vote short of opening the floodgates to an onslaught of restrictions that would make safe, legal abortion in America a right in name only. Trump’s two other Supreme Court appointees, Justices Brett Kavanaugh and  Neil Gorsuch, dissented and argued in support of upholding a medically unnecessary abortion restriction in Louisiana — just as Donald Trump hoped when he pledged to only appoint U.S. Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe v. Wade. Now, 17 abortion-related cases are just one step from the Supreme Court. Gardner’s vote today to confirm a third Trump nominee could be the tipping point that secures a Court hostile to reproductive and civil rights for a generation.

Access to abortion is hanging on by a thread across the country, and for too many people — specifically Black and Brown communities forced to navigate a legacy of systemic racism and discriminatory policies — Roe is essentially meaningless because abortion is already inaccessible. Colorado voters are also facing a harmful — andintentionally misleading — ballot measure on abortion that is being pushed by many of the same politicians and groups who have tried to ban abortion outright in Colorado every year for the last decade.

Last month, Planned Parenthood Votes launched a six-figure ad program to secure Colorado’s nine electoral votes for Joe Biden and remove Cory Gardner from office.
