Second ad in six-figure digital campaign urges voters to elect Mandela Barnes to move Wisconsin forward

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Planned Parenthood Votes announced the release of a new ad focused on Wisconsin’s U.S. Senate race. The second release in a six-figure digital ad campaign, the new 30-second spot highlights Ron Johnson’s support for state abortion bans like one from 1849 that has effectively outlawed essential health care in Wisconsin, forcing patients to flee their state for abortion. The ad urges voters to elect reproductive health champion Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes to restore and protect their rights.

The ad reminds voters just how out of touch Johnson is with the needs of Wisconsinites today, who are currently forced to live under a 173-year old law that predates many of the most seismic events in our nation’s history, including the Civil War, women winning the right to vote, and even the invention of the telephone.

Statement from Jenny Lawson, Executive Director, Planned Parenthood Votes:

“In this pivotal moment for abortion rights, Wisconsites can’t afford to suffer any longer under Ron Johnson’s failed leadership. Johnson and his ideas about abortion are archaic, ill-informed, and downright dangerous. It’s time to move Wisconsin forward, and there is only one U.S. Senate candidate who can do that: Mandela Barnes. The majority of Wisconsinites support abortion access, and they will show up at the ballot box to take control and fight back.”

Planned Parenthood Votes released “Fight Back,” the first ad in this series, earlier this month. The ad campaign in Wisconsin is part of Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations’ 2022 electoral program, “Take Control,” which represents the groups’ largest-ever investment in an electoral cycle. The $50 million program will help elect champions for sexual and reproductive health care and rights, including abortion, up and down the ballot and all across the country. The strategic investments will focus on states positioned to either restrict or expand access to sexual and reproductive health care.
