Phoenix, AZ — Just hours after the nation learned the tragic news that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away, unelected U.S. Sen. Martha McSally (R-A.Z.) stated that, against Justice Ginsburg’s last sentiments, the U.S. Senate should vote on President Trump's next nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court. Trump has promised to select, “without delay,” a nominee who would be dedicated to overturning Roe v Wade. Working to confirm a Supreme Court nominee just weeks before the election is a direct threat to the ability to control our lives, our bodies, and our futures.

With our health and rights on the line, voters in Arizona do not want the confirmation of a new Supreme Court Justice until their choice for president is in office.

Statement from Kelley Dupps, spokesperson for Planned Parenthood Votes in Arizona:

“Martha McSally, Arizona’s unelected Senator, has no business deciding who should replace the vacant Supreme Court seat previously held by Justice Ginsburg. This is the moment we’ve long warned about, and politicians like Martha McSally have long worked for — taking power and control over our bodies, lives, and future. While McSally thinks her state wants her deciding on the future of their health, their rights, and their futures, Arizonans disagree. They didn’t vote for her to represent them two years ago, and they won’t vote for her again. She has always sided with Trump and Mitch McConnell’s anti-health care agenda and this is no different. It’s just the latest proof point that McSally will always put politics before our health and rights. From now until Election Day, Planned Parenthood Votes will work to mobilize supporters to ensure that McSally is held accountable and replaced with Mark Kelly, a champion for reproductive health and rights."
