Ads urge voters to elect Stacey Abrams and U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock to restore and protect abortion access

WASHINGTON – Today, Planned Parenthood Votes released an ad series for Georgia’s gubernatorial and U.S. Senate races that highlight the stark contrast between anti-abortion rights candidates Gov. Brian Kemp and Herschel Walker and proven reproductive health champions Stacey Abrams and U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock.

Ads for the governor’s race focus on Gov. Brian Kemp’s six-week abortion ban, which took effect less than a month after Roe v. Wade was overturned, eliminating access to abortion care for millions of people in the state. The ads also lift up Stacey Abrams’ pledge to restore Georgians’ reproductive rights if elected governor.

Senate ads target candidate Hershel Walker’s call for a total abortion ban with no exceptions for rape, incest, or life of the patient. The ads also stress the need to re-elect Sen. Raphael Warnock, to restore and protect abortion access in Georgia and throughout the country, especially in the wake of the recently proposed national abortion ban.

Statement from Amy Kennedy, spokesperson for Planned Parenthood Votes in Georgia:

“Abortion rights are on the ballot in Georgia, and whomever wins our elections will play a critical role in determining our ability to control our own bodies. We know what’s at stake for Georgians and have invested resources, time, and boots on the ground to send Stacey Abrams to the governor’s mansion and to re-elect Rev. Raphael Warnock to the U.S. Senate. With six weeks until Election Day, it is crucial that voters know who they can trust to protect their health and rights. It’s abundantly clear: Brian Kemp and Herschel Walker are threats to Georgians’ lives and futures, and voters will not forget who fought to strip them of their freedoms.”

The six-figure digital ad campaign in Georgia is part of Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations’ 2022 electoral program, “Take Control,” which represents the groups’ largest-ever investment in an electoral cycle. The $50 million program will help elect champions for sexual and reproductive health care and rights, including abortion, up and down the ballot and all across the country. The strategic investments will focus on states positioned to either restrict or expand access to sexual and reproductive health care.
