Washington, DC — Tonight, after the first presidential general election debate reaffirmed the stark differences between the leadership abilities of Joe Biden and Donald Trump — and why we cannot afford another four years of a Trump presidency — Planned Parenthood Votes’ executive director Jenny Lawson released the following statement:

“Tonight President Trump lied about his egregious health care policies and refused to denounce white supremacists. His record is simply indefensible. For those of us who are deeply concerned about the future of health equity and access, civil rights, reproductive freedom, and our very democracy,  the choice is clear — we must elect Joe Biden.”

Voters want champions for reproductive health — including the right to access a safe and legal abortion — in public office. In both the 2018 and 2019 elections, voters overwhelmingly elected reproductive health champions, while soundly rejecting falsehoods and attacks from politicians with records hostile to reproductive health and access. Biden has outlined a range of policies to protect and expand access to reproductive health care, including abortion — in stark contrast to Donald Trump, who has spent the past four years pushing policies and actions that threaten access to reproductive health care and rights.
