Washington, D.C. Yesterday, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who apparently has not read any polls lately on voter reaction to the overturning of Roe v Wade, introduced a bill to ban abortion nationwide in an attempt to “rebrand” the deeply unpopular policy positions of the Republican party. It…did not go as planned.

The media quickly highlighted the hypocrisy of anti-abortion politicians celebrating the Supreme Court overturning Roe as a “win” for “states rights” then introducing a bill to ban abortion in every state in the nation. And Graham’s own Senate colleagues, who at least understand how angry voters are at anti-abortion politicians across the country, did everything they could to distance himself from his proposal.

But make no mistake: Senate Republicans weren’t angry with Graham because they disagreed with his proposal; they were angry that he said the quiet part out loud and made their intentions crystal clear to the public. As Graham himself said, “If we take back the House and the Senate, I can assure you we’ll have a vote on our bill.”

In other words, Republicans are in disarray.

Jenny Lawson, the executive director of Planned Parenthood Votes, responded to Sen. Graham’s bill:

“Anti-abortion rights politicians aren’t hiding the ball: They want to ban abortion nationwide. This once-hypothetical nightmare is now here. Who we elect this November will determine our right to an abortion and whether Congress can pass a nationwide abortion ban. Let’s be clear: With candidates like Ron Johnson, Marco Rubio, Ted Budd, Blake Masters, Herschel Walker, Adam Laxalt, Mehmet Oz and other anti-abortion politicians in the Senate, they will pass a national abortion ban. They only need one more vote in the Senate to control the majority and bring this bill to the floor. No amount of website scrubbing can hide their dangerous and out-of-touch agenda. They must be held to account.”

Some of the ✨glowing✨coverage around Sen. Graham’s clearly thought through and strategic bill introduction his team probably loves:
