Washington, DC — This morning, in an interview on Fox Business Network, Trump appeared to confirm that he is withholding funding for the U.S. Postal Service in order to make it more difficult to vote by mail this fall in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. He admitted that “now they need that money in order to make the post office work, so it can take all of these millions and millions of ballots. But if they don’t get those two items, that means you can’t have universal mail-in voting, because they’re not equipped to have it.”

After Trump made this galling admission, Jenny Lawson, executive director, Planned Parenthood Votes released the following statement: ###

“This morning, Donald Trump said the quiet part out loud. He cares more about boosting his own political prospects than protecting voters’ health and safety during a public health crisis. By trying to undermine the postal service and vote by mail, he is shamefully admitting in broad daylight that his plan to win is to force people to choose between their health and their vote, potentially disenfranchising millions of voters. Everyone needs to stand up to this blatant attack on our democracy. Planned Parenthood Votes will continue our work to ensure everyone can vote safely this fall. We can't endure another four years of a president who is willing to put himself before the public’s health."
