Washington, DC Mainers deserve a U.S. senator who will fight for their reproductive health and rights, every day and without fail. Unfortunately, they no longer have that champion in Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), whose disappointing and harmful record in recent years shows her priority is keeping corporate special interests and Mitch McConnell happy — even if it comes at the expense of Mainers’ health care and reproductive rights.

Collins used to put Maine families first. Now, she votes to cut huge tax breaks for corporations while putting protections for pre-existing conditions at risk, and has enabled more than 150 Trump judicial nominees  — including Brett Kavanaugh — who could gut access to sexual and reproductive health care.

Statement from Jenny Lawson, Executive Director, Planned Parenthood Votes:

“Mainers can tell when they’ve been pushed aside. Susan Collins has left her state behind, more concerned with the priorities of corporate special interests and her political party than the needs of Maine families. Whether she’s voting to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court and putting abortion rights immediately in danger, or supporting the Trump-McConnell tax scam that put protections for hundreds of thousands of Mainers with pre-existing conditions at risk, Collins has proven she can no longer be trusted to fight for Mainers’ health care. It’s time for Maine to have a new senator who will be a true champion for reproductive rights, every day and without fail. That champion is Sara Gideon."

As we near Election Day 2020, Planned Parenthood Votes will be running a multi-million dollar, multi-faceted campaign to make sure Mainers know the truth about Collins’ record.

  • Susan Collins ignored Mainers and multiple allegations from survivors and instead stood with Mitch McConnell when she voted for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, putting Roe v. Wade and the constitutional right to safe and legal abortion at risk.
  • Susan Collins voted in favor of the Trump-McConnell tax scam, which gave a massive tax handout to billionaires and corporations and put the Affordable Care Act at risk, leaving millions of Americans — and hundreds of thousands of Mainers — at risk of losing health insurance and losing pre-existing conditions protections.
  • Susan Collins has voted to confirm more than 150 Trump judicial nominees to lifetime positions on the federal bench, many of whom put abortion access at risk.
  • Susan Collins succumbed to pressure from special interests and anti-abortion extremists and voted to “defund” Planned Parenthood in 2015, putting health care at risk for the more than 8,000 Mainers who rely on Planned Parenthood for things like birth control and STI testing.
  • Susan Collins has not held a town hall in Maine in years, demonstrating she’s more interested in the priorities of her corporate special interests and political party than of the constituents she represents.
