Black PAC, PACRONYM, WOMEN VOTE! and Planned Parenthood Votes aim to spend combined $10 million on air cover to VP nominee in anticipation of racist, misogynistic attacks online

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Democratic super PAC PACRONYM, in collaboration with EMILY’s List’s independent expenditure operation, WOMEN VOTE!, Black PAC, and Planned Parenthood Votes today are announcing a collaborative advertising and messaging effort to shore up support for the Biden/Harris ticket, with a particular focus on countering ongoing racist and sexist attacks against Sen. Harris.

The group of major women-led political organizations and PACs will reach voters in key battleground states to help lift up the VP nominee, fight back against disinformation, and highlight her qualifications for the office. Together, the groups plan to raise and spend at least $10 million on digital advertising targeted to audiences in multiple states. Several of the groups have already began reaching voters with pro-Harris content in MI, WI, PA, NC, AZ, and GA.

"Senator Kamala Harris has been a champion for reproductive rights and expanded access to health care her entire career--and she'll be a champion as our next Vice President," said Jenny Lawson, Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Votes. "She is unapologetically commited to fighting for access to safe, legal abortion, birth control, and equity around maternal health for everyone - including women, immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community, Black and Brown people, indigenous communities, and more. We know that this and her historic inclusion on the ticket makes her a target for racist and sexist attacks and disinformation, and we have already seen efforts to smear her for advocating for reproductive rights. We refuse to let these attacks stand, and Planned Parenthood Votes is proud to join this partnership of leading progressive groups to fight back."

“For just the fourth time in our history, a woman will be on the presidential ticket of a major political party- and for the first time, a woman of color will be,” says Tara McGowan, CEO and founder of PACRONYM. “The historic nature of Senator Harris joining the ticket, coupled with her indisputable experience and record of getting shit done is already working to close Biden’s enthusiasm gap among voters. But as we know too well, the presence of a woman on our ticket will also bring out the worst imaginable instincts of Donald Trump and his allies, which is why we are so proud to be partnering with some of the best strategists on our side to have Senator Harris’ back at every turn.”

“Over the past month, it’s been as clear as ever that the Trump campaign and Republican party have decided that misogyny and racism are their best hope to distract the country from their many failures,” said Adrianne Shropshire, executive director of BlackPAC.  "Last week, we saw the RNC serve as a national platform to amplify these reprehensible and dangerous ideas and attacks on the democratic ticket. This partnership, between women controlling millions of dollars in communications resources, is timely and necessary. We need to let Senator Harris and all of the Black women running for office in record numbers know that we see what's happening and will not allow it on our watch.”

"As the nation's largest resource for women in politics, EMILY's List is thrilled that Sen. Kamala Harris joined the ticket and is on her way to making history. Unfortunately, Sen. Harris is already the victim of vicious racist and sexist attacks online. We aren’t here for it. These attacks are straight out of the Republican playbook." said Melissa Williams, Executive Director of EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE!. "We know how to beat them -- and we will win in 2020. That's why we're proud to bring our research and experience to bear and partner with these proggressive women leaders to defend Sen. Harris against these attacks."

In addition to this new paid media partnership, the groups are all also members of the Women’s Disinformation Defense Project - a new “war room” convened by UltraViolet that invests in and shares research and messaging to counter disinformation narratives. The work of this table will directly inform the message development and voter outreach strategies of this joint effort.
