MARIE NEWMAN (D)
Residents of the Third District have a champion in Marie Newman — who’ll fight to protect and expand their access to health care.
Women don’t need your help, Dan; we need to be in charge of our own health care decisions and in charge of our bodies, just like you get to be for yourself.
Marie Newman, Dec. 8, 2017
-
Newman is an unabashed supporter of reproductive rights — and pledges to make protecting Roe v. Wade one of her top priorities in Congress.
-
Newman favors repealing the discriminatory Hyde Amendment, which blocks access to safe, legal abortion through federal health programs often relied on by people with low incomes.
-
Newman backs the Illinois Reproductive Health Act, which protects the right to safe, legal access to abortion affirmed by Roe — and has spoken out against the unconstitutional abortion bans recently passed by politicians in multiple states.
DAN LIPINSKI (D), Incumbent
Lipinski has made no secret of his longtime, strident opposition to Illinoisans’ access to sexual and reproductive health care — including safe, legal abortion.
I’m a Democrat, and I’m pro-life!
Dan Lipinski, Jan. 22, 2015, addressing the annual March for Life in Washington
Dan Lipinski has proven he’s far out of step with Illinoisans when it comes to fundamental rights and health care. In addition to his votes against marriage equality and the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Lipinski has sponsored over 50 measures that attack access to sexual and reproductive health care — including safe, legal abortion.
-
Lipinski has voted seven separate times to “defund” Planned Parenthood — a policy that would leave thousands of patients no place to go for essential services such as STI testing and birth control.
-
Lipinski joined his most extreme colleagues in filing a court brief urging the Supreme Court to consider overturning the right to safe and legal abortion affirmed by Roe v. Wade.
-
Lipinski was the only Illinois Democrat to vote against the ACA — which provided coverage to over 1.1 million Illinoisans and extended protections to more than 5 million Illinoisans with pre-existing conditions. He continues to speak out against the ACA provision that makes birth control available without a co-pay to Americans with health insurance.
