JAIME HARRISON (D), Challenger

Harrison used his platform as chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party to affirm his support for protecting our health and rights.

Politics have no place in the exam room. This [abortion ban] is a shameful political stunt from Graham. #trustwomen

  • Harrison was instrumental in the fight to expand Medicaid to cover 46,000 South Carolinians.

  • Harrison denounced South Carolina politicians who tried to ban abortion, and pledges to defend access to safe, legal abortion.

  • Harrison grew up in a household where a missed day of work was a missed day of pay, and promises to fight for paid family leave in the Senate.

  • Harrison is an outspoken supporter of the Equal Rights Amendment and will work to ratify it.

For a quarter-century, Sen. Graham has worked to take the country backward on health care and reproductive rights — earning him a 4% score on the Planned Parenthood Action Congressional Scorecard.

We will fight to defund Planned Parenthood … we should set our sights on winning the war and that only comes about by electing [in 2016] a President and Congress committed to protecting life.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, Sept. 24, 2015

  • As the current chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Graham has played a key role in confirming more than 200 Trump-nominated judges to federal courts, many of whom are hostile to reproductive and sexual health. Sen. Graham led the effort to put Justice Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court despite credible allegations of sexual assault, and has encouraged older judges to retire to make room for more Trump nominees.

  • In 2013, Sen. Graham introduced the first federal bill to ban abortion at 20 weeks — and he continues to sponsor such bans.

  • Sen. Graham has attacked health care coverage and affordable birth control. He has repeatedly tried to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, including its birth control benefit.

  • Sen. Graham has voted nine times to block patients’ access to care at Planned Parenthood health centers, and he recently signed an amicus brief calling on the U.S. Supreme Court to let states “defund” Planned Parenthood.
