Sara Gideon Is a True Reproductive Rights Champion
As Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives, Sara Gideon made health coverage and care — including safe, legal abortion — more accessible for all Mainers.
-
Gideon opposed a 2015 effort to block low-income people in Maine from accessing care at Planned Parenthood health centers — and she opposes the Trump-Pence administration’s unethical Title X gag rule, which has forced Planned Parenthood health centers and other providers from a program that provides affordable birth control and reproductive health care to people with low incomes.
“In my twenties, I relied on Planned Parenthood as my health care provider,” Gideon has said. “Throughout my time in the State House, I have fought for Mainers’ reproductive rights.” -
Thanks to a 2019 law sponsored by Gideon, physician assistants and advanced-practice registered nurses in Maine can perform abortions — making safe, legal abortion more accessible in the mostly rural state.
-
Gideon expanded Mainers’ access to health care with a 2019 law guaranteeing that both private health-insurance plans and MaineCare — the state’s Medicaid program — would cover abortions for enrollees.
This year, vote for a true reproductive rights champion. Vote Sara Gideon for Senate.
