Albany NY — President Trump’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is a blow to some 42,000 New Yorkers who are already working to make their American dream a reality by completing their education or participating in our state’s workforce. With our state as the historic entry point for those who sought refuge on our shores and a chance to fulfill their destiny, New Yorkers are keenly aware of how painful this decision is.
“Rescinding DACA leaves many New York families fearful and in harm’s way, turning their lives upside down for no reason,” said Robin Chappelle Golston. “Losing DACA creates barriers to health care and disenfranchises our friends and neighbors who have held tight to the American dream. Planned Parenthood rejects this draconian and cruel action and will continue to offer quality confidential health care to all our community members. This is a shameful act that continues to show the heartlessness of this administration.
Nationally, Planned Parenthood has called on Democrats and Republicans in Congress to act now to immediately pass legislation to protect immigrant youth and their families. In New York State, state leaders including Governor Andrew Cuomo, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie have been quick to call out President Trump for his heartless decision.
Planned Parenthood Empire State Acts is a non-profit, statewide organization dedicated to protecting and expanding access to a full range of reproductive health care services. It represents New York’s Planned Parenthood affiliates and works to protect and expand access to reproductive health care for all New Yorkers.
