Albany, NY — Today, the Senate voted to move forward with an effort to pass Trumpcare, which would repeal Obamacare and “defund” Planned Parenthood despite the thousands of New Yorkers who have taken action against this legislation. Statewide, Planned Parenthood patients and supporters have stood up against the various pieces of legislation that have been proposed — which would all leave tens of millions uninsured, charge women more for less insurance coverage, and prevent millions of people with Medicaid coverage from coming to Planned Parenthood health centers for basic, preventive care
Vice President Mike Pence, who authored the original legislation to “defund” Planned Parenthood as a congressman, had to cast the tie-breaking vote on the worst bill for women’s health in a generation.
Statement from Robin Chappelle Golston, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Empire State Acts:
“New Yorkers won’t stop fighting for our health care – we will never accept any attempt to dismantle health care coverage in this country that disproportionately hurts our most vulnerable community members including women, people of color and seniors. Every cruel version of Trumpcare devastates women’s health care from ending maternity coverage to limiting access to contraception and preventive care at Planned Parenthood. We must remain vigilant and fight this bill at every turn, lives depend on it."
