Weeks 5 and 6, April 1-12

The last two weeks at the Capitol have been full of action. Watch our latest recap video to see how volunteer advocates have been turning the capitol pink and fighting to stop SB 1774/HB 1335, a bill that restricts abortion access for young people.

Learn more about this dangerous bill.

Week 4, March 25th - 29th

Week 4, March 25th - 29th

Here's the recap from week 4 at the Capitol!

Teen advocates from the LIGHT program in Broward were in Tallahassee for 3 days. They were talking to legislators about issues important to them and their peers. They opposed HB 1335, that creates barriers to abortion for young people and they supported HB 576 that creates a pilot LARC program in South Florida

They also had an opportunity to stand with faith leaders at the capitol with the Florida Interfaith Coalition for Reproductive Health and Justice.

Week 3, March 18th - 22nd

Week 3, March 18th - 22nd

For week 3 of Legislative session, volunteer advocates from Gainesville joined us at the Capitol.

They spoke out against HB 1335 in it's first committee, telling their personal stories, and pushing back against the extreme anti-abortion legislators who sat on the committee. We didn't stop the bill at this committee but there's way more fight still to come. House Bill 1335 would require minors to obtain parental consent prior to receiving an abortion. A move that would put already at risk young people in danger. You can learn more about this bill and how to help fight it here.

This week our advocates also joined in a press event celebrating the continued progress of the Dignity for Incarcerated Women Bill. The bill requires access to necessary feminine hygiene products and places restriction on male guards in women's prisons. Learn more about it here.

Week 2, March 11th - 15th

Week 2, March 11th - 15th

Here we are, second week of session!

We brought and awesome group of volunteer advocates up from the St. Pete area to learn how things work up here at the capitol and talk to their representatives about reproductive health care.

This week was also Black Girls Day at the Capitol. Over 50 Black women and girls were here with the Femme Agenda and Black Girls Matter MIA along with other community partners. They spoke out as advocates for issues that effect Black women and girls across Florida!

Finally, the Black Girls Day advocates along with other reproductive rights advocates stood in silent (and later not so silent) protest of Sen. Baxley and Rep. Hill's anti abortion agenda. These two held a press conference for their 6-week abortion ban bill. How could we not take action?

Opening Week March 5th - 8th

Opening Week March 5th - 8th

It was opening week at the capitol and reproductive health advocates were there in force!

After the governor's State of the State, progress groups delivered the peoples' response where we unveiled the Florida Sunrise Agenda that puts Floridians first and prioritizes our economy, our health, our students, our environment, and our people.

Later in the week, for International Women's Day, we joined ACLU of Florida, Dignity Florida, Florida Immigrant Coalition, Miami Workers Center, NLIRH FL Latina Advocacy Network , Tallahassee NOW, Women's March Florida and other statewide partners for a day of action, celebration, resistance and community. We honored the lives and resilience of women before us, those who are here now, and those who are still to come.
