Here’s your 2021 Legislative Session week 3 update with some very time sensitive action items! As always, keep an eye on our bill tracker for daily updates on our priority bills.
Contraception access has been our main focus this week with two proactive bills that will expand birth control access in Utah.
HB 102 – Contraception for Inmates
We told you about this one last week and are happy to report that Rep. Jen Dailey-Provost's bill passed the House and will be heard in the Senate Health & Human Services Committee this afternoon! Senator Luz Escamilla is the floor sponsor.
TAKE ACTION: Contact the members of the Senate Health & Human Services Committee and ask them to VOTE YES on HB 102! The committee meeting starts at 3:40 p.m. TODAY, so contact them NOW. You can find talking points on our bill tracker.
SB 128 – Family Planning Services Amendments
That same committee will also be hearing SB 128 from Senator Derek Kitchen.
This bill would expand Medicaid coverage for contraception to Utahns who fall in the coverage gap and who earn 250% or below the Federal Poverty Level. This would have a huge impact on thousands of low-income Utahns who currently do not have access to health insurance and don’t qualify for traditional Medicaid.
Check out our bill tracker for a link to more information and talking points about this bill.
TAKE ACTION: Contact the members of the Senate Health & Human Services Committee and ask them to VOTE YES on SB 128! The committee meeting starts at 3:40 p.m. TODAY, so contact them NOW.
Last week, we told you about the two anti-abortion bills: Rep. Christiansen’s Abortion Amendments and Rep. Acton’s Fetus Transport Restrictions. Both of these bills are still in the House Rules Committee. Check our bill tracker for talking points. You can also read about them here, here, and here.
TAKE ACTION: Contact the members of the House Rules Committee and tell them you believe Utah does NOT need any more restrictions on abortion care.
Thank you for standing up for reproductive freedom in Utah! We are so grateful for you!
