California Attorney General & 15 Attorneys General Take Action to Defend Access to Health Care Through Obamacare

WASHINGTON D.C.-- This week, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra and a coalition of attorneys general from 15 other states and the District of Columbia took action to defend people’s access to affordable health care through the Affordable Care Act (ACA). In a motion filed yesterday, these attorneys general seek to intervene in a lawsuit (Texas et al. v. United States et al.) that threatens to halt the ACA and all of its benefits, devastating health care access.

Becerra was joined by attorneys general from: Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Virginia, Vermont, Washington, and the District of Columbia.

Statement from Dawn Laguens, Executive Vice President of Planned Parenthood Action Fund:

“We applaud Attorney General Becerra and his colleagues for standing up for every person’s right to live a healthy, full life and get the care they need. Thanks to the ACA, tens of millions of Americans have gained access to health care, including more than 62 million Americans who have gained access to no-copay birth control. Many of these people may have otherwise gone without health care due to pre-existing health conditions or discriminatory policies that are rooted in racism.”

Statement from Crystal Strait, CEO of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California:

“We’re grateful to Attorney General Becerra for championing the right of all Californians to have access to affordable health care. Millions of Californians access basic health services such as cancer screenings, STI testing, and birth control thanks to the Affordable Care Act. Everyone deserves the freedom and opportunity to get affordable health care.”
