Reproductive health advocates urge New Jersey State Legislature to vote ‘yes’ for women’s health
Planned Parenthood New Jersey supporters to join legislative leaders for press conference before Senate vote to restore family planning funding
TRENTON, NJ — On Thursday, Feb. 1, the New Jersey Senate will vote on a family planning funding restoration bill. The legislation would reinstate the $7.45 million cut from reproductive health care services by former Governor Christie. Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey supporters, staff, and volunteers will join legislative leaders for a press conference at the State House in Trenton to underscore how critical these funds are to women’s health.

Since the cuts, there have been dramatic statewide increases in bacterial STDs and breast and cervical cancer cases. Restoring funding for family planning will be a first step toward restoring the health of New Jersey women and families.
The New Jersey Legislature voted to restore family planning funding numerous times during the previous administration. However, former Governor Christie repeatedly vetoed those bills. Governor Murphy has promised to sign the legislation that will support critical health services, including cancer screenings and testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
