Dr. Jennifer Childs-Roshak, MD, MBA
President and CEO of Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts and President of Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts.
Dr. Childs-Roshak joined Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM), the state’s largest freestanding sexual and reproductive health care provider, in 2015. Every year, PPLM provides a wide range of high-quality health care services to over 30,000 patients across Massachusetts, educates thousands of young people, parents, and professionals through PPLM’s nationally recognized sex education programs, and conducts clinical and social science research to advance public health nationwide.
Dr. Childs-Roshak also serves as the President of the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts (PPAF), the advocacy and political arm of PPLM. She is the first physician to lead these organizations in their histories.
Under Dr. Childs-Roshak’s leadership and vision of addressing persisting sexual and reproductive health disparities, PPLM has expanded its scope of health care services, created new cutting-edge education programs and resources, established a social science research department, and strengthened its community outreach programs and strategic partnerships across the state.
In 2016, in the face of renewed national attacks, Dr. Childs-Roshak expanded the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund to bolster its’ ability to advance reproductive rights and health equity on the state and local level. These efforts proved successful: in the 2017-2018 legislative session, PPAF successfully advocated for several state policies to protect and expand access to no copay birth control for 1.4 million people, improve access to confidential care, and repeal archaic abortion laws.
Dr. Childs-Roshak’s interest in sexual and reproductive health care dates back to her time as a new Harvard graduate working as an editor at the United Nations Fund for Populations Activities (UNFPA). Inspired by the work at UNFPA to ensure universal access to reproductive health, she began volunteering with Planned Parenthood NYC at this time. Together, these experiences motivated her to pursue a career in primary care medicine.
Prior to joining PPLM, Dr. Childs-Roshak practiced as a primary care physician for over 20 years. Most recently, she served as the Boston Regional Medical Director for Atrius Health while personally caring for patients. Dr. Childs-Roshak received her medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, completed her internship and residency at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine and is board certified in family medicine. Complementing her medical degree, Dr. Childs-Roshak holds a Master of Business Administration from the Boston University School of Management.
Dr. Childs-Roshak is currently a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society’s Physician Health Services Board of Directors, serves on the Boston Public Health Commission’s Board of Health, and sits on a variety of other councils focused on public health and health care access.
Dr. Childs-Roshak and her husband, Phillip Roshak, CPA, have two grown sons and live in Boston.
