Isa received woefully incomprehensible sex education growing up, so they jumped at the opportunity to understand their body and consent in college by getting involved with the Drake campus GenAction chapter. GenAction is a network of young activists across the country who organize events on their campuses and in their communities to mobilize and educate people about sexual health and reproductive justice.
At Drake University, they became a student organizer, working on LGBTQ+ and reproductive rights issues with their peers. They got more involved with the Planned Parenthood Action Fund and realized that the community they found at Planned Parenthood was something they wanted to not just be a part of, but continue building.
Isa now spends as much time as possible informing candidates about sex education, abortion access, and the importance of funding for Planned Parenthood. Being a member of the Planned Parenthood Speakers Bureau has helped Isa understand not just how to best share this information, but how much power a single story can have.
