Planned Parenthood Restrictive Iowa Abortion Law Temporarily Blocked
The law, which would have mandated at least a 24-hour delay in accessing abortion services after an unnecessary additional visit to a health center, will be blocked while the court considers Planned Parenthood’s lawsuit against the State.

June Medical Services v. Russo not only threatens access to care, it also brings up the issue of “third-party standing” and whether it is applicable in abortion cases. If the Court rules that physicians and health centers no longer have “third-party standing,” it will make it much more difficult for unnecessary abortion restrictions to be challenged in the courts.

In the dead of night and without any public input, these leaders spent the final hours of the 2020 legislative session pushing through a 24-hour waiting period for Iowans who are getting an abortion.
