Vote Like Your Rights Depend On It

Iowa is at risk in the wake of the decision to overturn Roe v. WadeStates now have the power to ban abortions even in the case of rape or incest. Our rights and access to reproductive health care depend on elected leaders at all levels of government.

Vote for Sonya Heitshusen and other Planned Parenthood champions up and down the ballot.

Sexual and Reproductive Health Care Champions on Your Ballot

Deidre DeJear for Governor

Deidre DeJear is the only candidate in the governor's race that is fiercely committed to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom. In addition to her promise to codify the right to abortion in Iowa, DeJear has pledged to restore public funds for family planning services, ensure access to age-appropriate, medically accurate, research-informed sex education, increase access to birth control, expand reproductive and sexual health services in rural areas, and establish paid parental leave provisions in the state.

Sonya Heitshusen for House District 28

Sonya Heitshusen is an advocate for sexual and reproductive health care. She will fight to keep private medical decisions between a patient and their doctor. She has committed to fight any legislation that would further restrict access to abortion in our state.

Sarah Trone Garriott for Senate District 14

Senator Sarah Trone Garriott is a proven champion for reproductive and sexual health care. She is a leader at the Capitol and will continue to protect abortion access and expand reproductive freedom for all Iowans for generations to come. She believes "it is a fundamental right to make decisions about one’s own reproductive health care. A small group of state legislators should never be able to take away that right." Her commitment to reproductive freedom and leadership in the legislature is critical to keep abortion safe and legal in Iowa.

David Young, A Threat to Reproductive Freedom

David Young is a career politician who peddles his extreme ideology to Iowans while trying to disguise himself as a moderate. A growing majority of Iowans support safe, legal abortion, but David Young supports the unpopular constitutional amendment that would strip Iowans of state protections to abortion. Young also supports banning abortion in our state without exceptions for rape and incest.

The Stakes

Control of Iowans’ bodies is on the ballot this November. Politicians will have more say over our sexual and reproductive health care than we do, after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, obliterating federal protections to abortion. State legislators will decide whether to ban abortion.

Abortion is still legal in Iowa, but we are going to have to fight like hell to keep it that way. We must elect leaders up and down the ballot that will fight for sexual and reproductive health care—including abortion—for all Iowans.
