Take Control

Vote to keep abortion and birth control legal in Iowa.

Iowa is at risk in the wake of the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. States now have the power to ban abortions even in the case of rape or incest. Our rights and access to reproductive health care depend on elected leaders at all levels of government.

Vote for Senator Jackie Smith and other Planned Parenthood champions up and down the ballot.

Sexual and Reproductive Health Care Champions on Your Ballot

Deidre DeJear for Governor

Deidre DeJear is the only candidate in the governor's race that is fiercely committed to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom. In addition to her promise to codify the right to abortion in Iowa, DeJear has pledged to restore public funds for family planning services, ensure access to age-appropriate, medically accurate, research-informed sex education, increase access to birth control, expand reproductive and sexual health services in rural areas, and establish paid parental leave provisions in the state.

Jackie Smith for Senate District 1

Senator Jackie Smith is a fierce advocate for sexual and reproductive health care. She stands with the majority of Iowans who want to keep abortion safe and legal in our state. In response to Roe v. Wade being overturned, she promised "I will do everything in my power to protect Iowans' fundamental rights to make their own health care decisions, the right to privacy, and the right to self-determination."

J.D. Scholten for House District 1

J.D. Scholten is an advocate for rural Iowans and a champion for those who often get left behind. As a state representative, Scholten will fight for every Iowan to get access to the health care they need, including sexual and reproductive care. In response to a June 2022 decision from the Iowa Supreme Court, Scholten said, "Like most Iowans, I believe in reproductive freedom and keeping the government away from getting between a woman and her doctor."

Rocky DeWitt, A Threat to Reproductive Freedom

Rocky DeWitt’s extreme beliefs do not align with the majority of Iowans who support safe, legal abortion access. He supports the unpopular proposed constitutional amendment that would strip Iowans of their rights, paving the path for a total abortion ban in this state. He supports banning all abortion in Iowa without exceptions for survivors of rape and incest.

The Stakes

Control of Iowans’ bodies is on the ballot this November. Politicians will have more say over our sexual and reproductive health care than we do, after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, obliterating federal protections to abortion. State legislators will decide whether to ban abortion.

Abortion is still legal in Iowa, but we are going to have to fight like hell to keep it that way. We must elect leaders up and down the ballot that will fight for sexual and reproductive health care—including abortion—for all Iowans.
