Democracy Dies in the Dark: Demand MoLeg Allow Remote Testimony

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, but legislators are proceeding like it’s business as usual.

Two weeks ago, the work of the entire House of Representatives was put on hold because of a COVID outbreak among members and staff. Last week, several state senators were absent and quarantining because of exposure to a colleague who had tested positive. There is still no requirement to wear face coverings while in the building.

Missourians should not have to choose between our health and our democracy. While some House committee hearings will be livestreamed, that is not enough. Sign the ACLU of Missouri’s petition demanding lawmakers provide a meaningful virtual option for the public to safely participate in hearings on the 1200+ bills that have been filed so far.

Sen. Hawley Must Resign

Senator Hawley has lied to his constituents, undermined our democracy, and violated his oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution. He must resign.

Roe Day Celebration Recap: Virtual Discussion with "Unpregnant" Director

To celebrate Roe Day, Community Engagement Coordinator Sharell Collins interviewed director Rachel Goldenberg about her new film, "Unpregnant," which chronicles a Missouri teen’s cross-country journey to navigate restrictions and get an abortion. Following the interview, Goldenberg took questions from event participants.

We are grateful to Rachel for sharing in an honest discussion about abortion and for her advocacy for reproductive freedom! "Unpregnant" is available on HBOMax.

Recap: Planned Parenthood @ Project CRADLE Care event

Volunteer Organizer Brenda Cross joined the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Alpha Upsilon Sigma Chapter's Prenatal/Postnatal Virtual Forum & Community Baby Shower on January 16. This annual event is part of Project CRADLE Care, a prenatal education and resource program that seeks to improve pregnancy outcomes in high-risk communities by increasing the number of women of childbearing age who receive adequate prenatal education and prenatal care and who better understand proper infant care and child development.

Brenda was a guest panel speaker at the virtual event and talked with St. Louis area expectant and new mothers about resources available to them at Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri and provided information about health insurance coverage. Participants received care packages that included safer sex kits from Planned Parenthood.
