The governor's No Mo Red Tape form has several questions, but you do not need to answer all of them. There are three key questions we think are important, highlighted in the steps below.

Step One

Step Two

In question one, explain why TRAP laws are red tape.

Here are our suggestions:

  • TRAP laws are targeted regulation of abortion providers. They are dangerous and deceptive laws designed to sound like reasonable efforts to protect patients, but they are actually medically unnecessary and only serve to make it more difficult for a woman to access safe, legal abortion.
  • Using Gov. Greitens’ definition, Senate Bill 5 is nothing but red tape.
  • Abortion is one of the safest medical procedures performed in the United States, including Missouri.
  • Missouri has more regulations governing both physicians and health centers providing abortion than for any other medical procedure, including those that are much more complicated.

Step Three

The third question asks how to improve the law so it is less burdensome.

Here are our suggestions:

  • Instead of restricting a woman's access to safe, legal abortion, government should repeal TRAP laws.
  • Jefferson City politicians should focus on ways to improve Missourians' health, like: expanding access to health coverage through Medicaid, lowering maternal and infant mortality rates, providing students with comprehensive and medically accurate sex education, and raising wages in our state.

Step Four

Question four asks which government agency is responsible for implementing the red tape you identified.

  • The Department of Health and Senior Services enforces TRAP laws in Missouri.

Step Five

Click submit — and you're finished! Thank you for speaking out!

Governor Greitens wants to have it both ways. He is calling for cuts to red tape after going out of his way to add 30+ pages of medically unnecessary abortion restrictions in an expensive special legislative session this summer.

If the governor truly wants to cut red tape, he should start by opposing TRAP laws like the one he just signed.

TRAP laws — targeted regulation of abortion providers — are dangerous and deceptive laws designed to sound like reasonable efforts to protect patients, but they are actually medically unnecessary and only serve to make it more difficult for a woman to access safe, legal abortion. In short, TRAP laws are nothing but red tape.

Citizens’ submissions to the governor's No Mo Red Tape website are being shared publicly*, which means Planned Parenthood supporters have a big opportunity to make our voices heard!

Speak out: Tell Gov. Greitens to cut red tape by opposing TRAP laws.

*You do not need to give your name to submit a suggestion for cutting red tape.
