Columbus, OH: Yesterday, Senators Charleta Tavares and Cecil Thomas introduced Senate Concurrent Resolution (SCR) 25. This resolution condemns the recently proposed changes by Trump-Pence administration to Title X, the nation’s only program solely dedicated to family planning and reproductive services. Earlier this month, the Department of Health and Human Services announced a proposed rule that would prohibit doctors from referring patients to abortion providers and would block funds to Planned Parenthood, one of the largest providers of Title X services in Ohio and across the nation.

In 2016, Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio provided care to 63% of the total contraceptive clients served at Title X-funded centers in Ohio. In nine Ohio counties, Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio is the only Title X family planning provider, serving an indispensable role providing medically isolated communities with vital reproductive health care and education.

Statement by Joanna Saul, Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Advocacy, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio:

“Title X ensures that every person —regardless of where they live, how much money they make, their background, or their insurance status — has access to basic, preventive reproductive health care, such as birth control, cancer screenings, STI testing and treatment, and regular reproductive check-ups. Taking away access to health care will harm thousands of Ohioans; particularly affecting women and communities of color.

“Once again, the Trump administration has placed politics over people. We need more legislators like Senators Tavares and Thomas who are interested in serving the public, rather than political agendas.”
