BREAKING: Planned Parenthood Action Fund Endorses Three Federal Ohio Candidates for 2020

Columbus, OH – Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) and Planned Parenthood Federal PAC have announced another wave of federal endorsements for the 2020 election cycle. Among more than 100 candidates endorsed today are three incumbents from Ohio: U.S. Representatives Joyce Beatty (D-OH 3), Marcia Fudge (D-OH 11), and Tim Ryan (D-OH 13).

For years, Ohioans have been up against state and national leaders who are determined to limit or outright eliminate access to reproductive health care, including safe and legal abortion, and comprehensive sexual health education. As Planned Parenthood health centers in Ohio grapple with the loss of federal funding through the Title X Family Planning Program and state funding through the Ohio Department of Health, now more than ever we must lift up candidates who will stand with Planned Parenthood and protect reproductive health care access and rights.

Representatives Beatty, Fudge, and Ryan are proven reproductive health advocates. All three co-sponsored the Women’s Health Protection Act, a bill that would protect the right to safe and legal abortion by creating a safeguard against restrictions that don’t apply to other health care providers. They also co-sponsored the Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance Act, a bill that would lift the discriminatory Hyde Amendment and guarantee insurance coverage of abortion services for patients enrolled in Medicaid and other federal programs.

Statement from Stephanie Kollmann-Baker, State Organizing Director, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio:

“Ohioans are sick of the anti-reproductive health care agenda set by legislators at national and state levels. Between funding losses and the constant chipping away at access through individual bills, enough is enough. It is time for elected officials who value health care over ideology, and the lives of their constituents over political games. Representatives Beatty, Fudge, and Ryan have proven that Ohioans can count on them to preserve and invest in reproductive health care for all, regardless of income, zip code, or insurance status.

“Beatty, Fudge, and Ryan represent the communities that directly benefit from Planned Parenthood health centers, and they’ve demonstrated their commitment to defending bodily autonomy for their constituents. We look forward to working alongside these devoted civil servants as they protect and expand access to reproductive health care.”
