TAKE ACTION!

The Supreme Court has taken away our constitutional right to abortion. This ruling overturned Roe v Wade and takes away the freedom to control our bodies and personal health care decisions, giving it to politicians to decide.

Here in Wisconsin, the Republican members of the state Legislature have refused to repeal Wisconsin's Criminal Abortion Ban - following the lead of lawmakers from nearly 200 years ago who also believed women shouldn't have the right to vote. As a result, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin has temporarily suspended abortion services until there is clarification from a court about whether the 1849 law is enforceable.

We need to make sure our state's laws will protect access to abortion care for our friends, family, and neighbors regardless of who is on the Supreme Court. Passing the Abortion Rights Preservation Act - which would repeal Wisconsin's Criminal Abortion Ban - is the most important step our elected officials can take to protect access to abortion care in Wisconsin.

Who Is Responsible for Wisconsin's Criminal Abortion Ban?

On June 22, just 2 days before the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v Wade, Governor Tony Evers called the Wisconsin State Legislature into a Special Session to repeal Wisconsin’s Criminal Abortion Ban from 1849. Republicans squandered their last chance to protect access to abortion in Wisconsin.

Because of the inaction of Republicans, Wisconsin's Criminal Abortion Ban is still on the books. Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin had to suspend abortion services because of the Supreme Court decision - it did not have to be this way. Republicans could have voted to repeal Wisconsin’s Criminal Abortion Ban but they chose to take no action.
