Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California announced today that Alissa Ko will join the organization as Vice President for Public Policy, Government Affairs and Advocacy. For nearly 15 years, Ko has worked with organizations, campaigns and within government to advance progressive public policy.

“Alissa brings a wealth of experience helping organizations build effective advocacy programs for policies that matter,” said Crystal Strait, CEO of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California.

“Alissa is joining our team at a time when the stakes couldn’t be higher for justice, equality and our patients.”

Prior to starting her own consulting firm, Ko served in President Barack Obama’s White House as Senior Associate Director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Engagement, working with elected officials and leaders of the Asian and Pacific Islander community. Ko was Deputy Director of Ready for Hillary, overseeing field, digital, data and constituency departments for the multi-million dollar national organization that recruited 3 million supporters in the lead up to the 2016 presidential campaign.

“I’m excited to help advance the critical advocacy and public policy work of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California,” said Alissa Ko. “Even as the organization faces unprecedented political attacks, I’m looking forward to going beyond defense and mounting a robust public policy program to help our patients thrive.”

In California, Ko has worked with SEIU, Consumer Attorneys of California, and served as President of California Young Democrats. Campaigns and Elections magazine named her a “Rising Star” and the American Association of Political Consultants named her one of their 40 Under 40 winners, recognizing exceptional consultants under 40 years of age.
