Statement by Crystal Strait, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, regarding today’s decision by the US Supreme Court to hear arguments on California’s Reproductive FACT Act.
“Planned Parenthood’s commitment and focus is to ensure that our licensed health professionals provide patients with the most accurate and complete information to make informed decisions for themselves and their families. That’s why the Reproductive FACT Act, which prohibits so-called “crisis pregnancy centers” in California from providing misleading information about their services, is critical.
“We, once again, appreciate the leadership of California Attorney General Xavier Becerra for his commitment to upholding this law before the Supreme Court. Planned Parenthood health centers are dedicated to providing our patients with the information they trust and need, and we stand ready to educate the public about yet another attack on women’s health.”
Passed in 2015, the Reproductive FACT Act requires that licensed clinics provide clients with information about family planning, prenatal care, and abortion services and notify patients about available financial assistance and contact information for those services. It also requires unlicensed facilities that provide pregnancy-related care to inform clients that they are not a licensed medical facility and do not have a licensed provider on staff.
