PLANNED PARENTHOOD TAPS VETERAN HUMAN TRAFFICKING PROSECUTOR
Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California announced today that veteran prosecutor Maggy Krell has joined the organization as Chief Legal Counsel. Krell has served as a Deputy Attorney General for the last four California Attorney Generals - Lockyer, Brown, Harris and Becerra, litigating high-profile cases throughout the state.
“I am thrilled to have Maggy joining our team,” said Crystal Strait, CEO of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California. “She is a battle-tested advocate and a great legal mind—just who we need at the forefront, as we fight the extremist agenda that would defund our operations and chip away at access to health care.”
Most recently, Krell has served as the Supervising Deputy Attorney General for the Department of Justice’s Special Prosecutions Unit, overseeing all major fraud, corruption and human trafficking cases. During her career, she has successfully prosecuted a wide range of cases, including sex trafficking, domestic violence, murder and white-collar crime.
“The most meaningful years of my career have been spent empowering vulnerable young women who have been subjected to victimization and abuse. Equally important to their access to justice is their access to health care,” said Maggy Krell. “For more than three decades, Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California has worked to secure reproductive rights and ensure access to quality health care. I’m ready to fight for the 1.6 million patients we serve.”
Krell has received numerous professional accolades including the Anti-Defamation League Sherwood Prize for combatting hate and bigotry, the Long Beach Police Department IMPACT award for a significant sex trafficking prosecution, the 3Strands law enforcement leader of the year award and the Attorney General’s Excellence award. Krell is a graduate of University of California, San Diego and University of California, Davis King Hall School of Law.
