In addition to endorsing Xavier Becerra for Attorney General in the 2018 Primary Election, we are announcing five more statewide candidate endorsements:

  1. Assemblymember TONY THURMOND for State Superintendent of Public Instruction
  2. Incumbent BETTY YEE for State Controller
  3. Incumbent ALEX PADILLA for Secretary of State
  4. State Board of Equalization Member FIONA MA for State Treasurer
  5. Senator RICARDO LARA for Insurance Commissioner

“At this crucial time when access to women’s health care is under constant attack from the Trump administration, we need bold, tough and experienced leadership in California. PPAC is honored to endorse candidates who not only support Planned Parenthood, but are willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that millions of patients who rely on our services won’t be turned away," said Crystal Strait, PPAC President and CEO.

In case you haven't heard a lot about Assemblymember Thurmond, he has a strong record advocating for public education, sitting on the State Assembly Education Committee, and prior to his time in the California Assembly, served on the West Contra Costa Unified School District Board and the Richmond City Council.

“Assemblymember Thurmond has an inspiring personal story that has translated into a career of action and service," commented Strait. “He understands that preventive care starts in the home, travels to the classroom and then to the health center. He is committed to removing barriers that impede students’ ability to learn by expanding school-based health, mental health, and social service programs.”

The seven independently incorporated Planned Parenthood 501(C)(3) affiliates operate more than 115 health centers serving close to 800,000 Californians each year. They provide preventive and reproductive health care services including family planning, breast and cervical cancer screenings, STD testing and treatment and, in some areas, primary health care services.

Paid for by Protecting Choice in California, a project of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California.
