Today Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California (PPAC) endorsed Dr. Ed Hernandez for Lieutenant Governor, citing his proven record of leadership on reproductive health and women’s rights. Since his election in 2006, Hernandez has authored key reproductive health bills in the Legislature and earned 100% on every PPAC scorecard.

“As a health care provider himself, Dr. Ed Hernandez has a deep understanding of the challenges faced by Planned Parenthood health centers. Dr. Hernandez has been a fierce advocate to protect Planned Parenthood funding and has worked to expand Medi-Cal eligibility,” said Crystal Strait, CEO of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California.

“As California’s next Lieutenant Governor, I will continue to advocate for the protection and expansion of reproductive rights, access to health services, and comprehensive sex education in our public schools. I look forward to partnering closely with Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California in my campaign and beyond,” Dr. Hernandez responded.

“At this crucial time when access to women’s health care is under constant attack, we need bold, tough and experienced leadership in California. PPAC is honored to endorse candidates who not only support Planned Parenthood, but are willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that millions of patients who rely on our services won’t be turned away,” said Strait.

In addition to Hernandez, PPAC has endorsed the following candidates for statewide office:

  • Xavier Becerra for Attorney General
  • Fiona Ma for State Treasurer
  • Betty Yee for State Controller
  • Alex Padilla for Secretary of State
  • Ricardo Lara for Insurance Commissioner
  • Tony Thurmond for Superintendent of Public Instruction

Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California (PPAC) is the state public policy office representing California’s seven separately incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates. Through advocacy and electoral action, PPAC promotes sound public policy in areas of reproductive and preventive health care, family planning and comprehensive sexual health education.
